Picture Sleeves
Here is a little curio out of my collection. This is not an album cover, but a 45 RPM record sleeve. This song was released in 1981 and, in order to get it, I had to ask for it behind the counter of my local record store. Apparently, this tune was somewhat obscure for several years. Several times I had offers from people to buy it but, as you can see, I never sold.

Even the record itself is strange. It is the european style 45, with the smaller spindle hole, and the label is die cut to look like someone cut the hole out with scissors. This is the way it came from the factory.

This is side B. The title of the song is "The Prey." Now THIS is old skool punk.

Here's a very forgotten piece of novelty wax pressed in response to the incredible interest in the Watergate Scandal. The price sticker is original and the words "June 30 1973" are written on the record label in my handwriting. The album itself is an amusing, if incredibly dated, spoof of the whole affair.

45 RPM picture sleeve for The Baby's - "Back On My Feet Again." The date stamped on it indicates the day I purchased the record.

1918's excellent Old School compilation that was briefly available on BitTorrent inspired me to dig out this picture sleeve from my collection. "SEP 77" is scrawled on the label in my handwriting along with a note that the song was "#72 (in the) TOP 100 OF 77." I recall when I bought the record that the sleeve was scented with a strawberry fragrance as part of a promotion. The perfume proved to be very long lasting and this sleeve kept my record box smelling like strawberries for months afterward.

This 45 sleeve is simply a black and white version of the cover of the album that the song came from. I know... not that spectacular, but hey... points for obscurity, right?!
